SERIOUS WARNINGS Empty Situation Vacant

Post  Pulse Thu Feb 20, 2014 7:25 am

Just wondering if the Treasurer would have to attend all the meetings.
I was talking to a colleague who liked the idea, but didn't relish going along
to lots of meetings with beer and pizza and silly talk. This person seemed to
think e.mail would be sufficient, but obviously would need to go to some
meetings. the current committee has been around for a while..how long??,
and seems to be a very matey closed shop, with a distinct pecking order,
and some very out-spoken members, enough to scare my colleague off.
I know the members have worked very hard, and I acknowledge that, and
I hope I don't appear to be run them down, thank you.

SERIOUS WARNINGS Empty Treasurer

Post  ASFA Sec Thu Feb 20, 2014 8:48 am

The committee would get together once every 4-6 weeks depending on what needs to be discussed; there is usually a beer on offer as compensation, but 'silly talk' isn't generally on the agenda. We do discuss issues arising, that concern the day-to-day running of the ASFA. Money is one of those things so the occasional meeting appearance would be preferable to anyone taking the position.

The committee is now down to 7 guys; Matt, Trev, Morg, Rob, Roy, Mike and myself. Trev, Morg, Mike and me have been on the exec for over 10 years with Rob, Matt & Roy between 2 and 4 years. Not too sure where the 'closed shop' bit comes in as we always require new blood to keep the existing committee members on its toes (...we would more than welcome a fresh face...) Generally, there is no pecking order as everyone's voice on the committee is heard and all ideas considered/voted on. I'd hate to think that we were that scary a bunch of guys that anyone considering giving their time to be an exec member wouldn't want to be a part of the association.
